🔒 How Student Privacy Is Protected
Student session records are stored using server-generated anonymous IDs — no student name is written to any session record. Teachers may optionally create a roster of short labels (nicknames or first names) to control classroom access; those labels are stored under the teacher's account and are not linked to session records. Full legal names and student ID numbers should never be entered anywhere on this platform.
Atlas Spelling is a structured spelling decision documentation system developed by Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC. It uses Merriam-Webster pronunciation as a fixed reference to help students systematically map spoken sounds to written spellings. The platform records spelling decisions exactly as entered — it does not grade, score, evaluate, or correct. The platform also provides educator-facing infrastructure that allows teachers to observe patterns in student spelling decisions over time; these observations are generated from recorded sessions and are visible only to the authorized educator. All instruction remains the responsibility of the Educator, tutor, or parent using the platform.
The platform is intended for use by:
By registering, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you are an authorized school administrator or Educator acting on behalf of your institution. Students do not register their own accounts.
When the platform is used in a school or district, the Educator or administrator who registers the account and enables student access is confirming that the school has obtained all required parental notifications and consents under applicable law, including FERPA and COPPA. Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC relies on this confirmation. Schools are solely responsible for compliance with their own parental consent obligations.
When a parent or guardian registers an account and enters their child's information, that act of registration constitutes the parent's or guardian's informed consent for their child's participation and for the limited data described in the Privacy Policy to be collected on their child's behalf.
Students under the age of 13 may only use the platform under the direct supervision of an Educator or parent who has an active account. No student under 13 may register independently or provide personal information directly to the platform.
To access the platform, you must register with a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account. Contact us immediately at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
Verification and sign-in links expire after 15 minutes for security. Student session tokens remain valid for the duration of the school year, allowing students to return to their classroom without re-entering their code each session.
Before sharing your classroom code with students, you may optionally set a Student Roster in your teacher dashboard. The roster contains up to 7 approved aliases or nicknames — do not enter full legal names or student ID numbers. Only students whose alias appears on the roster will be permitted to enter the classroom. The classroom code combined with an approved alias constitutes the student's access credential. You are responsible for maintaining your roster and for ensuring the classroom code is shared only with authorized students.
Access during the initial trial period is provided free of charge. Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC reserves the right to modify access terms or pricing with reasonable advance notice.
By using the platform, you agree not to:
Session records generated through the platform belong to the student's school (in school settings) or to the parent or guardian (in private or home settings). Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC does not claim ownership of student-generated content.
When this platform is used in a school or district, the school may designate Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC as a school official with a legitimate educational interest under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, and its implementing regulations at 34 C.F.R. Part 99. When a school makes that designation, Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC agrees to:
The school is responsible for ensuring its annual FERPA notice to parents discloses the use of service providers with access to education records, including Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC. By enabling student access to the platform, the school confirms compliance with this obligation.
The platform uses an AI-powered feature that processes session data through the Anthropic API:
All AI processing is performed using the Anthropic API under a data processing agreement. Anthropic does not use student session data to train its models. Data transmitted to the Anthropic API is limited to what is necessary for each feature to function. No student data is used for advertising, commercial profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the platform's educational function.
We retain session data for a maximum of five (5) years, after which all records are permanently deleted. You may request earlier deletion at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. We will complete deletion within 45 days of a verified request. Schools may request deletion of all records associated with their institution at any time.
Session records — the spelling work captured during each session — are stored using server-generated anonymous IDs and contain no student name. Aggregated session data may be used by Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC to analyze patterns in spelling decision-making for the purpose of improving the platform. Such data will never be published or shared in any form that could identify an individual student. Re-identification is strictly prohibited.
Schools and districts that use the platform in an institutional capacity are entering into a data processing relationship with Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC. These Terms of Use, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the data processing agreement between the school and Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC for purposes of FERPA compliance. The school's agreement to these Terms confirms:
Schools that require a separate, countersigned data processing agreement or Business Associate Agreement may request one by contacting [email protected].
In the future, Doctor Dyslexia Dude LLC may engage authorized educational or research partners in connection with the study of spelling acquisition. Any such engagement will involve only de-identified, aggregated data. No personally identifiable information will be shared with any third party for research purposes. Users will be notified of any material change to data sharing practices through an updated Privacy Policy before those changes take effect.
